On Friday, April 23, 2010 I recieved the email that changed my perspective on this next year.
I received a text on my way home from my mom. She said I got an email from AFS about Italy. I immediately thought the worst. 'I'm not accepted. I'm not going to Italy.' I replied, "Am I in?" I got a simple 'yes' in return. Even though it was the shortest text I have ever received, it was the most exciting!
I have so many things to think about now. What will I wear? What will I do? How many suitcases can I take? When do I meet my host family? What part of Italy am I going to? This is just a couple of all the questions that run through my head.
School is getting a lot harder to get through because I am so excited about Italy. It's harder to focus and stay on topic, because all I can think about is Italy, Italy and more Italy!!

Introduction to ME!
Hey Everyone!
My name is Sidney Evangelista and I am a singer and actress with a dream of going Big-Time! To expand my understanding of different cultures I have decided to become a foreign exchange student through AFS Intercultural Programs. I am Italian, but I have never experienced how a true Italian lives day to day. By doing foreign exchange I hope to gain an understanding of the culture, and dreams of others around the world. This will help when I get back from Italy to be able to educate my fellow peers and help them to realize that there is a lot of other possibilities in the world instead of just in America. I hope to also further everyone's knowledge of different cultures, instead of just what they see on TV. This is an amazing chance for me to achieve my dreams and succeed.
My family and friends are supporting me all along the way. My friends are always there for me when I feel like I can't achieve my goal for this trip. My family is always there for me in my emotional, physical, and mental state throughout this process. My teachers also play a very important rule, they help me to realize that I can achieve anything I put my mind to.
To become an AFSer I have had to overcome many barriers that could've held me back years ago. For instance, my grades were dropping and by having this goal to be able to go to Italy I had to keep them up. Also, I have shown my parents that I am independent and can go to Italy for a year.
To fund my trip I have to raise $10,000! This is a huge goal but I have already sent out letters to my community to have them help me raise this amount of money. I am planning on getting a job, hosting community activities for the family in order to achieve this goal.
